For some of us, the best times we had are the days when we were still in school. For these guys from ACJC, we're pretty sure they had plenty of fun designing this Half-Life map based on their college - Anglo-Chinese Junior College.
In fact, this map is modeled so closely after the architecture of the school building that if you're an ex-student from the college, you'll be amazed at the accuracy of the building model and find the locales familiar. Even if you're not from the college, you'll appreciate the claustrophobic design of the narrow corridors and stairways as well as the spacious lecture theatres and lobby areas.
According to the designers, this map is only a preview release so the map is rather spartan. For example, there is nothing fancy about the wall textures although there're attempts to give some variety to the walls in different locations.
Despite the no-frills design, the map is a fun place for a Deathmatch. You can jump from a corridor onto the landing below. You can blast the classroom windows, leap from one level, and enter through another window on the level below. You have wide-open spaces in the lecture theatres and the ceremonial staircase area if you want to have room to move. You can even hide in the narrow rooms and wait for your victims to appear.
Weapons are littered all over the maps and if you bother to look, you can find pretty powerful weapons hidden in certain well-hidden areas on the map.
As for character modeling, there're two cute ACJC girl models and a construction worker for you to choose from. Hey, who says you can't be a cute babe and fight too!
Installing the pak is pretty straightforward as the files are copied straight into your Half-Life directory so getting the map up and running shouldn't be a problem.
According to the designers, there're plans to do a soundtrack, some 3D animation, and even turn the map into something fresh JC1 students can play during their Orientation.
Whether you're still in school or out of school, you can relive some of you school days in this excellent map. Plus, we'll be eagerly waiting for the release of the final version of this map. Now, if only school was as much fun as a Half-Life deathmatch…
