INTRODUCTION
As ACJC enters the next phase of its upgrading she leaves behind a rich
history that has coalesced into the current school structure. With
the upgrading works currently in progress the ACJC Half-Life/Counterstrike
Map Development Team commemorates 23 years of a rich AC culture that has
walked through the hallowed corridors of the college by constructing a
3D replica of the school in a gaming environment.
Construction of the map will involve the use of the Half-Life engine to
provide for a virtual environment which will enable people to learn about the
college campus in an interactive way. Featuring new and old elements of
the college in its transitionary stage of upgrading, the team seeks to
engage both Half-Life and Counterstrike players in a realistic environment
that requires intensive strategic and tactical planning.
Extensive effort has been made to portray an accurate image of the school
and students of the college, past and present, will experience a unique
familiarity with the map.
LATEST UPDATES
12 January 2002 - Avenger
For latest updates regarding this project and other works by our team,
please refer to our Main Website. Work
on the ACJC Counter-Strike map was completed in late 2000 and we currently have
no intentions of updating the map in the light of our National Service
obligations.
For those interested in the Nokia Singapore Art 2001 Exhibition running till
3 February 2002, we've placed details including location maps and a small summary
of the exhibition
here. The exhibit, which features the ACJC Counter-Strike Map (de_college)
is showcased together with other local works by Singaporean mappers. Do drop by
and visit the exhibition which our good friend Charles from the
National University of Singapore
is manning pretty often - There are 6 systems on which you can try the local
maps on, and the only fee you pay is the admission fee ($3 for adults) for the
exhibition.

The team collected our respective 'A' Level Results yesterday back at the ACJC Sports Complex.
It was a pretty good experience meeting up with everybody once again, and getting a good glimpse of
the college campus, which is still undergoing upgrading works. While most of our team continues to
serve our National Service, Sephyre is drawing up a concept for a mod, while
Dixon is hammering out a new Counterstrike map at the sidelines after his recent posting.
The SG-Mappers website which Yonk! did up has moved from Clanman
to PAGN. We're very surprised at this
move since none of us were informed of this previously when the site was first started.
Anyway, the cs_hdb map Yonk! was working on has a downloadable beta release at the
SG-Mappers website. It's a pretty neat
map with a couple of problem areas where lag has yet to be addressed, but this is definitely a must
try for all those who've been waiting for a Singapore-style housing estate map.

Our interview
with Singapore C|Net Gamecenter has been put up over the past couple of days. It gives some coverage on
our development of the map from the time the idea was conceived till we put out the final version in
December. We answered a number of questions from our developer's perspective on making such a detailed
map on the Counterstrike engine and contains
exclusive screenshots
of the map as well as the
floor plan
of some areas we were working on and some
rough sketches.
Check out the entire interview right
here.

Few more fragments of news updates with regards to the Singapore CS Mappers community -
Neocron Trax has set up a statistics page on the local Singapore Counterstrike server hosted
on delta.sg.gs.
There's also been a lot of talk recently about how the local mappers can form sort of a league
in which the various local teams can cooperate on some projects and how we can link up the various
CS websites effectively to appeal to the gaming community. You can join the discussions
here
and here
while you can check out the discussion regarding the delta.sg.gs server.
here.
The Gamersutra Forum
has a new "Clans" section open for Clans who wish to do any recruitment or hold discussions.

Some very interesting developments on the Singapore Counterstrike front of late :
[FragX]tremisT of FragX has been hard
at work developing a new local map based on the HDB context. It's a pretty daunting
task in my opinion considering it involves having to map block after block of HDB flats
while keeping the map playable. News is that the map should be released real soon now
so keep your eyes peeled for a map that could blow you away! Preliminary screenshots can
be found on the FragX website.
Glidias, another budding local map developer has been working on de_Boontown, some
arabian townlike map. You can check out his latest screenshots at the Gamersutra Forums
here
to take a peek at his latest creation.
Not to be outdone deadfish from Gamersutra
is currently working on a cs_brothel map while MiSo_SoUp has a subway map up for download
at the Gamersutra Intranet. So
although our team over here is all tied up with using real guns not so far away from the
Singapore mainland, the local CS map developers are still hammering away at their desktops
readying the next big CS map!
