Website of the ACJC Half-Life/Counterstrike Map Development Team
4 March 2001 - Avenger
The team collected our respective 'A' Level Results yesterday back at the ACJC Sports Complex.
It was a pretty good experience meeting up with everybody once again, and getting a good glimpse of
the college campus, which is still undergoing upgrading works. While most of our team continues to
serve our National Service, Sephyre is drawing up a concept for a mod, while
Dixon is hammering out a new Counterstrike map at the sidelines after his recent posting.
The SG-Mappers website which Yonk! did up has moved from Clanman
to PAGN. We're very surprised at this
move since none of us were informed of this previously when the site was first started.
Anyway, the cs_hdb map Yonk! was working on has a downloadable beta release at the
SG-Mappers website. It's a pretty neat
map with a couple of problem areas where lag has yet to be addressed, but this is definitely a must
try for all those who've been waiting for a Singapore-style housing estate map.

Our interview
with Singapore C|Net Gamecenter has been put up over the past couple of days. It gives some coverage on
our development of the map from the time the idea was conceived till we put out the final version in
December. We answered a number of questions from our developer's perspective on making such a detailed
map on the Counterstrike engine and contains
exclusive screenshots
of the map as well as the
floor plan
of some areas we were working on and some
rough sketches.
Check out the entire interview right
here.

Few more fragments of news updates with regards to the Singapore CS Mappers community -
Neocron Trax has set up a statistics page on the local Singapore Counterstrike server hosted
on delta.sg.gs.
There's also been a lot of talk recently about how the local mappers can form sort of a league
in which the various local teams can cooperate on some projects and how we can link up the various
CS websites effectively to appeal to the gaming community. You can join the discussions
here
and here
while you can check out the discussion regarding the delta.sg.gs server.
here.
The Gamersutra Forum
has a new "Clans" section open for Clans who wish to do any recruitment or hold discussions.

Some very interesting developments on the Singapore Counterstrike front of late :
[FragX]tremisT of FragX has been hard
at work developing a new local map based on the HDB context. It's a pretty daunting
task in my opinion considering it involves having to map block after block of HDB flats
while keeping the map playable. News is that the map should be released real soon now
so keep your eyes peeled for a map that could blow you away! Preliminary screenshots can
be found on the FragX website.
Glidias, another budding local map developer has been working on de_Boontown, some
arabian townlike map. You can check out his latest screenshots at the Gamersutra Forums
here
to take a peek at his latest creation.
Not to be outdone deadfish from Gamersutra
is currently working on a cs_brothel map while MiSo_SoUp has a subway map up for download
at the Gamersutra Intranet. So
although our team over here is all tied up with using real guns not so far away from the
Singapore mainland, the local CS map developers are still hammering away at their desktops
readying the next big CS map!

A Happy Lunar New Year to one and all! Things have been kinda slow lately with more
of the team enlisting in
National Service
just last week. We're all tied up in Basic Military Training for the next 3 months at least,
so we won't have much time to get our asses onto anything new. What we do have however are
some plans for a project that we might embark on later on in the year.
GoTcHyKiD got our e-mail server @ Fragnetics working and issued each of us personal
e-mail accounts. I'm not entirely sure if the rest of the team would be migrating to the
new e-mail addresses @fragnetics.com but at least it could finally get me off the
slow-moving usa.net which I've been using for a while.
There might also be another interview published soon which discusses our work with
the de_college Counterstrike map. We don't have details on this yet, but rest assured we'll
keep you guys updated with the news once it comes around. There's also a chance that we
may be featured on one of the ACS publications.

GoTcHyKiD managed to get the domain working. Apparently, the problem was with NSI and
not Surf28. As of now, the site www.fragnetics.com
is in working condition. We don't know how long we will maintain the current URL on surf28.net,
so please update your bookmarks as soon as possible.
More on the status of our projects, with any luck, we may be moving from just creating
games to virtual reality simulations. Also, we are currently studying the feasability of
creating our own 3D engine, although I expect a miracle if we are to roll out something as
ambitious as that.

Stuck at home with a nasty round of flu, things are starting to get real slow here.
No updates, no news reports, no releases, and horror of horrors, no PROJECTS! Man I'm bored!
Apologies to Avenger that I be staying at home while he is doing PT on Tekong, but believe
me, I'm not feeling much better than he is right now.
On another note, We've been trying to get the fragnetics.com domain up and running,
but since I'm the only one who knows how to get it done apart from GoTcHyKiD, and I'm
not exactly thinking straight right now, the domain will have to wait. DNS problems and all.

Happy New Year to one and all! First off I'd like to sound off a word of thanks to
Frightener of HalfLife.Net for
helping us update the various files on the 3DDownload mirrors. I think the FilePlanet
mirror should be updated later in the week.
Oob from http://www.hokman.co.uk/nnbot.htm,
who helped contribute an NNBot waypoint file for our Preview Release map has completed a new
waypoint file for the final release map. This waypoint file can be found on our
download page. Thing about it is that I haven't been able to
test this waypoint file properly so I'm not sure how good it works.
Some guy sent us e-mail regarding creating waypoint files for other Counterstrike bots -
Since Dixon and I are stuck on dinky Tekong almost everyday it's quite impossible for us to
develop waypoint files for other bots. Our kind supporters however have been contributing
waypoint files to us, which is why we've been able to post their submissions on our site.
If any of you are interested in sending waypoint files of other bots to us we'll be glad to
post it on our download page. We've also updated our FAQ with this
question.
