Tsunamii.Net Alpha3.5 CrushIntroductionCommissioned by the Millbank Gallery in London and sponsored in part by the Singapore Arts Council and Axis Communications, alpha 3.5 was visualized by Tsunamii.Net and made possible by Fragnetics. Involving the physical destruction of a webserver which counted itself down to doom under a 5-tonne industrial crusher, alpha 3.5 explored the physicality of the Internet by allowing people around the world to log onto the webserver and watch a live video feed of the webserver itself. Over the course of a 1-week countdown which had special mention on websites of USAToday, Slashdot, and [H]ard|OCP, a total of more than 70,000 visits were logged to our website in Singapore, which hosted the live video feed through the eye of an Axis webcam in London. A couple of weeks later Tsunamii.Net and Fragnetics travelled to South Korea to set up a documentation of the work at the Seoul Musuem of Art as part of the Media_City Seoul Digital Art Exhibition from 26 September to 24 November. This allowed our team from Fragnetics to experience the arts scene outside of Singapore first-hand. Further into this project-page we'll be covering the background work and aspects of the project that involved the technical collaboration between our team and Tsunamii.Net.
